Where to pay taxes if I'm a German citizen working from Portugal for US company?

I am an EU citizen (German) with NHR status in Portugal (I reside here). I am working remotely for a USA-based company in NH. I lived in Ohio until May 2023, but I no longer reside there. Where will I pay my taxes in 2024?

Personal taxes shall be paid in the residence country of the person receiving the income. Being an NHR, regardless of the location of the employer, the worker shall pay his personal income tax in Portugal, regardless of tax obligations that the employer (company) might have in its local country or even in Portugal (most probably they will be also responsible in Portugal for some tax obligations).

As a NHR status holder in Portugal, you are also recognized as a tax resident here, so you will need to file your taxes in Portugal.

Taxes are generally paid where the workers live most of the time. If one stays in a country for at least 183 days in a year, that country will usually want the worker to pay income tax to them. Holders of the Portugal Digital Nomad Visa can qualify for the NHR regime if they stay more than 183 days in the country. With it, you can avail of preferential tax rates for the first ten years.
