Prime ministers put spotlight on successful Uglobal Immigration Convention 

World leaders from St. Kitts and Malta were among the hundreds of attendees at the Uglobal Immigration Magazine event, which also included a black-tie awards ceremony.
Two prime ministers shared their insights about the investment migration industry during keynote speeches at the 2018 Uglobal Immigration Convention in Los Angeles, which attracted hundreds of global participants.

Uglobal Immigration Magazine’s successful conference was held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites in downtown Los Angeles on July 23 and 24. The event drew hundreds of global migration agents, attorneys, corporate attorneys, developers and other industry professionals.

The festivities began on July 22 with a special black-tie awards ceremony that honored the Top 100 Global Migration Agency CEOs. Set inside the historic venue of Exchange LA, the winners included leaders from China, Vietnam, Korea, UAE, Brazil and India. The prime minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Timothy Harris, congratulated the global leaders during his speech. The event also featured a gourmet dinner and live music. A portion of the night’s proceeds benefitted Willow International, a charity fighting human trafficking.

The Uglobal convention — which also coincided with the EB-5 Convention by EB5 Investors Magazine — included panels on topics such as the European citizenship-by-investment marketplace and the future of the industry. Following the day’s educational discussions, sponsor Relevant Group hosted a VIP cocktail reception at the elegant rooftop of the Dream Hollywood hotel.

The panels continued the second day with discussions about government approval processes, the Caribbean CBI market, tax residency and Malta’s CBI program. Other moderated panels explored the U.S. EB-5 market, but from the global vantage point of Russia, Brazil, the Middle East and Latin America.

Malta Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muscat was the keynote speaker during the second day’s lunch reception, where he talked about his country’s strict due-diligence standards through its popular CBI program. Ashleigh Aitken, candidate for mayor in Anaheim, California — the home of Disneyland and the Angels baseball team — also shared her thoughts about foreign investment and immigration.

Richard Hallam of Grenada Inward Investment enjoyed the educational and networking aspects of the event.

“The Uglobal platform is looking to capitalize on the success of their sister event - EB5 Investors Magazine - by branching out into the CBIosphere, with open, honest and frank discussions and panels and presentations from industry leaders,” he said. “They are chartering a new path that I hope will make CBI more understood, more transparent and more accessible for all.”

Nestor Alfred, CEO of the St. Lucia Citizenship by Investment Unit, agreed.

“The Uglobal conference held in Los Angeles provided a unique opportunity to have met many agents and to have had meaningful discussions on furthering the growth of the CIP,” he said. “The social events organized around the conference was exceptional.”
