The United States’ Gold Card program recently announced by President Donald Trump would offer wealthy foreigners a pathway to live and work in the United States and eventually apply for citizenship for a $5 million fee.
The new program aims to reshape the existing EB-5 immigrant investor visa program, which currently requires a minimum investment of at least $1,050,000 (or $800,000 in targeted employment areas) to create jobs for U.S. workers.
Trump’s team has yet to release details and implement the Gold Card option and it is unclear if it would be created in addition to or replace the EB-5 visa program in some form.
If realized, the U.S. Gold Card program would compete with current residency and citizenship by investment (RCBI) options in Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean by providing a quick route to residency for affluent individuals.
The potential visa program is designed to attract ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs) seeking expedited access to U.S. residency and citizenship without the job creation requirement of the EB-5 program.
