Bill Zhang is an attorney with China Sunbow Law Firm, specializing in patent, copyright, and trademark litigation and arbitration. His areas of focus include outbound investor representation, mergers and acquisitions, due diligence analysis, intellectual property, education, and energy.

Before joining China Sunbow, Zhang worked for three international law firms: CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, and Thelen Reid Brown Raysman. He practiced in the areas of commercial law, corporate compliance, employment and labor, governance, intellectual property, international trade, mergers and acquisitions and restructuring.

Zhang also handled China-related cross-border transactions for domestic and international clients, drafting the required legal documents in both English and Chinese. He helped foreign investors establish and maintain their business operations in China, gain access to Chinese markets, and apply for governmental approvals licenses and permissions.

Working with foreign investors, Zhang advised a foreign automobile manufacturer on its joint ventures with several Chinese automobile component manufacturing enterprises. He helped forge a merger of a foreign copper manufacturer with a Chinese copper manufacturer, and he’s helped broker deals among several foreign and Chinese software companies.

Zhang has authored numerous legal articles and is currently working on a handbook titled Guidance on Doing Business in the People’s Republic of China under Its Legal Frames”. This handbook covers the topics of anti-trust issues, disputes, and resolutions, employment and environmental protection issues, intellectual property enforcement, investment vehicles, tax and technology transfer.

Zhang earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from Central South University in China. He has a Master of Laws, Chinese Civil and Commercial Law, from Peking University Law School. Zhang speaks English, Chinese, and French.
