James Shepherd

Real Estate Investment Advisor

James Shepherd is a real estate investment advisor at Cushman & Wakefield. He is the managing director of the firm’s Greater China research team -- the Chinese Outbound Investment Centre of Excellence for Research.

Shepherd has more than 20 years of experience working in real estate. As a general practice surveyor, he has handled all types of property, including industrial, retail, office, residential, hotels, and serviced apartments.

Shepherd has worked in the Greater China real estate market since 1998 and is based out of Shanghai. He was previously based in Hong Kong.

Before joining Cushman & Wakefield, Shepherd worked in the Shanghai office of Colliers International. As the senior director of advisory and research services, he advised firms on investment, acquisition, lending, and initial public offerings (IPO).

Previously, Shepherd was the senior director of Ernst & Young’s Shanghai transaction real estate team. He specialized in research and due diligence across China and was responsible for valuation, fair value, and impairment testing.

Shepherd began his real estate career in the United Kingdom, where, while studying for his real estate related degree, he worked as a property agent in industrial and residential sectors in 1996 and 1997.

Shepherd received a Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, from Southampton Solent University in England. He speaks English and Chinese.
