In 2015, John Shen turned his focus to the global private equity market. He formed Sunstone Management Inc., also known as Sunstone, in Long Beach, Calif. Sunstone assesses each client's objectives and constraints, designs unique private equity fund products -- including the fixed-income fund, the debt-equity growth fund and the venture capital fund -- and produces attractive risk-adjusted returns for its clients by constructing and managing highly customized and diversified portfolios of carefully selected investment opportunities to satisfy the demand of global high net-worth clients. Shen's expertise includes commercial lending, structural financing, and private equity fund design and management. He has deep understanding of the general capital demand, financing options, restrictions, and funding procedures of the U.S. small businesses and middle markets. He also is an industry pioneer creating innovative financial, legal and tax solutions to meet client’s specific needs and requirements.

In 2009, he founded the American Lending Center, or ALC, in Long Beach, Calif., after working in pharmaceutical, real estate and finance industries, among others. Within a few years of his leadership, ALC grew into one of the leading U.S. non-bank lenders, specializing small business lending through government-sponsored loan programs such as the SBA 504 program.

Shen’s professional achievement has been well-recognized by the U.S. finance industry throughout the years and he has been invited as a guest speaker to present at many international finance conferences. In 2017, he won the “Coleman SBA 504 Lender of the Year Award” by the Coleman Report.

Shen was born and raised in Beijing, China. He earned his undergraduate law degree from Peking University in 1992 and his master's degree in statistics and decision sciences from Duke University in 1996.
