How can foreign investors take advantage of recent changes to online consular registrations in Portugal?

I've heard investors can now register online for Portuguese consular registrations. What else can I do with this new online system? Can I, for example, pay e-visa fees and other dues? Can I appoint a lawyer to buy property on my behalf in Portugal via this process?

The recent changes to online consular registrations in Portugal make it easier for foreign investors to apply for national or Schengen Visas and pay the consular fees. However, this is the only change regarding foreigners. All other changes are exclusive to Portuguese nationals. The procedure of appointing a lawyer to purchase a property on your behalf in Portugal still requires you to personally be in an embassy’s facilities, in order to sign all the necessary documents.

Yes, you can appoint a lawyer to buy your property.

Unfortunately, it is still not possible to submit biometrics at the local consulate. Golden visa applications still demand the investor and his family to travel to Portugal and apply. On the other hand, I can confirm the acquisition of property can be done remotely by providing a power of attorney to a Portuguese lawyer.

The registration cannot all be done online; at least for the interview, investors would have to come to Portugal after scheduling it with the government agency, SEF. As for the payment of fees, this must be done at the time of the interview. If you want to buy a house, you can give a power of attorney to someone who can do it for you, including a lawyer.
