How can Golden Visa holders start a business in Portugal?

I obtained my Golden Visa of Portugal last year and want to establish my own business here. Are there any restrictions or special requirements for me since I don’t have Portuguese citizenship yet?

There are no restrictions for a Golden Visa holder to start any business in Portugal. In fact, there are very easy ways to establish a company in Portugal, for a very low cost. In order to incorporate a company in Portugal, you will need a Portuguese residency permit and a tax number. In your case, as a Golden Visa holder, this step is already fulfilled. It is not mandatory for you to have one as a Golden Visa holder. If you don’t have it, you will have to enroll in Social Security. In terms of registration, there are lists of pre-approved companies from where you can choose one, all with pre-approved elements (tax number, social security number). You just have to indicate your own elements and which will be the company’s characteristics (address, share capital, assign management, etc). The application process takes less than one hour and is usually analyzed and granted by the Registry Services within two days, at which point a digital certificate for the company will be issued. You can also do this in person at a Registry Services Office. There is no period for analyzing the application, as its conformity and documents provided will be ascertained at that moment. This process takes less than one hour, by the end of which the digital certificate for the company will be issued.

The holders of a residence permit through Golden Visa, have the right to set up a business on the same terms as a Portuguese citizen. There are no restrictions and you do not need to be a Portuguese citizen to set up a company in the country.
