How can I convert my short term stay in Panama to a long term residency permit?

I would like to explore the real estate market in Panama by first visiting on a short term visa and then I will decide whether I want to stay in the country for the long term, if I like something. Would I be able to easily convert my short stay to a permanent one if I decide to stay back? What documents should I carry with me?

Depending on your nationality, you may or may not need a visa to visit Panama. If needed, you’ll be able to stay for a few months (three to nine). If you’d like to apply for a permanent residency permit based on real estate investment, you may need to consider an investment of $200,000 or higher, depending on your nationality and type of permit you qualify for.

For any residency type, you must have your passport, five photos and an apostilled hard copy of your federal police report, which must be recently issued, since the document is only valid to be filed at Immigration offices within six months of its issuance. Your short stay visa can be changed to a residency permit by applying to any of the residency by investment available in Panama.
