The Malta Nomad Residence Permit (MNRP) does allow for freelancers or self-employed individuals to apply, and there is no requirement to prove an employment relationship. Proof of the minimum income being consistently generated for a period of time in the past should be provided, and ideally this should also be supplemented with proof of the minimum income to be generated in the future (ex. client contracts or letters of service). It is also important to have your tax affairs in order, since it is also preferable for proof of tax paid for the previous year to be submitted at time of application (if applicable), and for the eventual renewal. Family members may be included, although, this will increase the minimum monthly income threshold that must be satisfied for each family member that is included in the application. The increment per dependant family member is around EUR 400 to EUR 500. The Malta Nomad Residence Permit (MNRP) status can only be used to reside in Malta for a maximum of 3 years, and thus cannot alone lead to permanent residence. However, nothing precludes you from applying for longer-term solutions, such as the Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP) or other options that may be available at the time.

How can international freelancers benefit from Malta’s Nomad Residence Permit program?
I am a freelancer who does meet the €2,700 minimum income requirement, but from different sources/clients and not through a set salary with one employer. Am I still eligible for this program? Can I include my family members? Can this be turned into a longer term permanent residency arrangement in the future?
