As your husband was born in Macau during the Portuguese Administration, he has Portuguese nationality. Provided your husband never waved his Portuguese nationality, it is possible for him to renew his passport in Portugal. For this purpose, he will have to schedule an appointment at IRN (Portuguese Central Registry Office) in order to renew his passport. In order to fulfill this purpose, your husband will need to provide SEF his expired passport and his Portuguese ID. As a wife of a Portuguese citizen for over three years, you too are entitled to become a Portuguese national. For this purpose, you will have to also schedule an appointment at SEF (Portuguese Foreigners and Borders Services), declare that you wish to become a Portuguese citizen, and provide the services your marriage certificate, duly legalized and translated to Portuguese. The same procedure applies to your son. As he is the son of a Portuguese citizen, he too is entitled to become a Portuguese national. For this purpose, he will have to also schedule an appointment at SEF, declare that he wishes to become a Portuguese citizen and provide the services his birth certificate, duly legalized and translated to Portuguese.

How can Macau citizens renew Portuguese passports in Portugal?
My husband was born in Macau in 1954. He used to have a Portuguese passport, but he did not renew it since 1991. We were told it takes extremely long to renew it at the Portugal consulate in Macau. Can he renew this in Portugal? What documents he needs to bring and how long it will take? What is the process for me and my 28-year-old son to apply for family reunion once he gets his passport?
