It’s possible to still apply for the Portuguese Golden Visa. At the moment, we just have a proposal to end the Golden Visa, so we don’t know exactly the accuracy and the terms of this ending until we have a published law. Until this happens, Portuguese law stands.

What important points came out of the latest meeting on Portugal’s Golden Visa?
I chose the Portuguese Golden Visa because of the 7 days annual immigration supervision and the naturalization after 5 years. I have just opened a bank account in Portugal but have not bought a store yet. Should I speed up the process of buying a store and submitting a golden visa application or should I wait and see? When is the next meeting of the government about the Golden Visa? What results came out of the latest one?

The Government presented its proposal for processing the Golden Visa applications under the general regime (with longer minimum stay requirements). This proposal is yet to be discussed in the Parliament and the President may also request the verification of its constitutionality. It is too soon to know what will be the final amendments to the regime.

The latest news regarding the Golden Visa are not yet decisive and do not include a 100% confirmed date for this to come into effect, but it does solidify the decision of terminating the program. Given the fact that there is an intention to not consider any applications submitted after February 16th (which is not reasonable, because it applies retroactive negative effects), I'd consider it wise to wait and see.

We recommend for the time being to wait for the formal proposal and the discussion in the parliament. The last decision was to apply the normal immigration law to the Aris (Golden Visa).
