How can I provide proof of residency in Portugal for a parent?
I am writing to inquire about the minimum residency requirement and the starting day to provide proof of residency for one of the parents when obtaining Portuguese citizenship for a child born in Portugal to foreign parents, as well as the requirements for obtaining a D2 or D7 visa. Is a minimum residency duration of 1 year could acceptable? What is the starting day from which residency can be proven for one of the parents? What documents to prove the duration of residency do I have to file?

The law grants citizenship to children of foreigners who have been legal residents in Portugal for at least one year. The same applies where only one parent is a Portuguese resident. However, both the parent's marriage and the child's birth must be registered with the Portuguese civil registry. As for the requirements of the D7 Visa (also known as the passive income visa), the minimum income requirements vary according to the number of dependants that the main applicant wishes to include. For the main Applicant – 100% of the minimum wage (currently €9,840 per annum). The D2 Startup Visa is called the "immigrant entrepreneur" visa. To qualify for a D2 visa, your income needs to come from a business you started yourself or a business you buy. Both the D7 and the D2 will get you a residence and work permit. The difference is that if you come to Portugal with, for example, a job offer in Portugal, or the clear goal to set up a company, you would have to go for the D2, if you solely have a passive income, you would have to go for the D7.
