According to the definition currently given for digital nomads and remote workers, this visa applies to non-EU citizens who carry out highly qualified work activities through the use of technological tools that allow to work remotely, autonomously or for a company based outside Italy. That being said, it is necessary to wait for the implementation of this new visa and residence permit category into Italian immigration law, for which it will be issued a decree detailing the requirements, conditions of issuance and procedure to apply.

Is it possible to work for an Italian company remotely and still be on a digital nomad visa in Italy?
I’m a non-EU foreigner who works for multiple firms. I’m planning to live in Rome in the summer while working freelance for an Italian firm that is based in another part of Italy. Would it be possible to do that on a digital nomad visa? Or would that be possible only if I show I’m working for a non-Italian firm?

The digital nomad visa in Italy has been announced but it is not yet operative. An implementation decree with requirements, procedure etc. must be approved first by four different ministries. I doubt it will be approved before the summer.
