Can I travel to Japan on a Jamaica passport with no visa?

I would like to know if I can travel to Japan without a visa on a Jamaican passport, how long I can stay, and what my options are once there to begin a residency application.

Jamaican nationals must obtain a visit visa before entering Japan, as the country does not have a visa exemption agreement with Japan. Residency status must begin with applying for a Certificate of Eligibility at the local immigration office. Unfortunately, the issuance of this certificate does not allow the applicant to extend their stay.
