What changes in Australia’s investment immigration system can we expect following the Labor Government’s victory in the election?

Should I hurry up and invest now in case the investment amounts are increasing?

    With the new government, there will definitely be a deeper focus on addressing skills shortage in Australia, so skilled visas, work visas and global talent visas would be given more quota allocation. If you are in the business/investment category, it is hard to predict if there would be any future investment amount changes for these visa requirements. If you feel you already qualify and would like to apply for a business/investment visa, you should ideally try to start your nomination process with your state of choice by early July to ensure you are in the front of the queue for the new quota of a fresh fiscal year, when states begin their nomination process again.

    The new government has not indicated that they will make any changes to the business and investment program. The investment requirement for the 188B Investor stream and the threshold requirement for existing business owners increased on 1 July 2021 and there have been no further changes since then. As with everything migration related, changes can occur at any time. If you meet the requirements for a Business and Investment visa it is best to apply while conditions are favourable to your application.

    At this stage, there has been no change in the Business Innovation and Investment subclass 188 visas since the major changes introduced in July 2021.

    In short, my opinion is that amounts will not change in the near future. However, FOREX and inflation might impact costs and business. In my personal experience, certainty and execution in business is well sought after. So you might benefit most just to take advantage of the current certainty and execute. As an investor, I believe the main purpose is to manage your risk on your investment to give acceptable returns, including the visa as a backup.
