What criteria must be met in order to apply for Panama's Pensionado Visa program?

I'm in the Middle East and I'm planning on to retire soon after 30 years of working in the oil industry. I have substantial savings; would I be eligible to apply for Panama's program for pensioners? Or would I need to be a government employee with yearly pension plan?

The Panama Retiree Visa requires a minimum lifetime income of $1,000 per month, or its equivalent. This can be certified by a government agency, or by private licensed financial entities, such as private pension plans, trusts, banks, insurers or mutual funds.

In order to qualify under this residency program, you must prove you’ve been granted a lifetime retirement pension, either from a government institution or from a private company; additional requirements will have to be met on the latter.

You would need certification proving you are retired or pensioned; pension amount must be at least $ 1,000 per month.
