What is the processing time for the initial QIIP application?
We are looking at a number of residency programs and wanted to know what the typical processing time is for the Quebec Immigrant Investor Program. Education for our son is the main reason why we are looking at these programs and would like to have him in school as soon as possible.

To get a decision from the Quebec government, it is around eight to 10 months. Afterwards, to receive a decision from the federal authorities, it depends on the processing post.

At the moment, an application under the QIIP program would take an average of 12 months to be analyzed by the Quebec government. Once the Quebec government issues a certificat de selection du Quebec, you will then have to submit an application for permanent residency to the federal government of Canada. The federal process is usually longer than the QIIP application. However, nothing prohibits your child to go study in Canada while your application is processed (with a study visa).

The processing time for the QIIP is calculated in two portions: the Quebec provincial processing and the federal processing. Quebec’s processing portion generally varies from nine to 12 months, but can extend to about 18 months from applicants who are Chinese nationals. The federal processing time varies a lot depending on the visa office, which is ultimately appointed for the process. We recommend our clients to plan an additional 18 months. That being said, many QIIP applicants would also be eligible for temporary status in Canada under a work permit while their QIIP application is processed.
