What type of residence permit can be obtained in Portugal after getting the D7 visa?

Would it allow me to work for a Portuguese company, or as an independent professional through a company created in Portugal, or as an independent professional through a company established abroad?

D7 visa allows to obtain a residence card, valid for 2 years, renewable for 3. The holder will have the right to live, work and access the health system in Portugal, as well as citizenship after 5 years.

Once you have the D7 visa, you are allowed to obtain a residence permit in Portugal for one year. After that, you can renew for two years successively. After five years of legal residency, you may apply for permanent residency. With the D7 Visa it is possible to have professional activity in Portugal.

The D7 Visa, once converted into a residency permit, will pose no restrictions on the sources of income that you can benefit of. Either from Portugal or foreign, active income derived from work and/or business wouldn't be a problem, provided that the tax obligations - foreign and/or domestic - are to be met.

Under the D7 visa, you must prove you have enough passive income obtained abroad to live in Portugal. On top of that, you are free to have other sources of income, namely professional income, from activities performed in Portugal or abroad (tax consequences would be relevant to consider). However, if the applicant wants this professional income to be the basis for visa application, there would be other visa options to explore.
