Where can I renew my Australian passport?
I hold dual citizenship in the U.S. and Australia. Due to the travel restrictions of COVID-19, I have been staying in the U.S. since last year. I recently realized that my Australian passport has expired. Can I renew my passport in an Australian consulate here in the U.S.? Will I encounter any issues since it's already expired?

You can renew your Australian passport through the Australian embassy in the U.S. You will have not issues.

You can still qualify for the streamlined renewal of a passport where the passport has expired less than 3 years ago. Go to passports.gov.au, create an account and complete the renewal application form. You'll need to print this, bring the items directed in the form (eg. passport photos, previous passport) to your nearest Australian government embassy or consulate office.

I suggest you check with the nearest Australian consulate/passport office in the U.S. Your visa status will not lapse if your passport expires, but you will still need to apply for a new passport in person as soon as possible even during the Covid-19 pandemic. If the Australian consulate office that services the state you are located in the U.S. is not available to meet you in person or in a city/state where there are government restrictions to travel, you may actually explore posting in your application for passport renewal.
