Can my son do our home country's military service instead of in Cyprus?

My wife, my son, and I are foreigners who have lived in Cyprus for the last 18 years and received Cypriot citizenship. My son is 16 years old and must serve in the army in our former country once turns 18 years old. We would like to return to our country once he turns 18 so he can serve in the army there. What is his right to be exempt from the obligation to serve the army in Cyprus so he can meet his obligation in our other country (not in Europe)?
