How can foreigners qualify for Italy’s investor’s visa program if some of their documents are missing?

Although I have the money to apply for Italy’s investor’s visa program, some of my documents, such as the birth certificate and education credentials, are missing. The documents got lost during a period of conflict in my home country and getting them reissued is next to impossible. Can I still apply? What would you advise?

The documents mentioned are not actually required to apply for an Investor visa and residence permit, hence you should make sure that the documents that are actually required (e.g. proof of funds, origin of the funds, criminal record certificates etc.) are available for submission.

It is unlikely your application could go ahead if you miss some necessary documents. You'd better apply to your embassy in Italy if it is not possible for you to apply for the documents at home.

Birth certificates and education credentials must be listed in the application, but you do not need to submit supporting documents for these aspects. You will need a criminal certificate from the countries where you have lived in the last 10 years, and a detailed letter from your bank confirming that they have carried out the due diligence, required by the FATF anti-money laundering regulations.
