How can I apply for a Panamanian residency permit without having to travel?

I’ve read that a total of two trips will be necessary to process residency permits in the future. Are there any exceptions to this, i.e., if I prove I’m the only caregiver for an elderly parent and I’m not able to travel?

Residency application in Panama can only be done by personally visiting the country to initiate the process and to complete it. There is one residency option called Qualified Investor Visa, though, which allows for remote residency application, and this could be considered an exceptional option.

Please note that there aren't any exceptions. The only visa that can be submitted before the applicant arrives in Panama, and requires just one trip, is the qualified investor visa (investment of minimum US $500,000).

There’s just one residency permit that allows filing an application remotely, which is known as the Qualified Investors Residency permit. This will require either a minimum investment of USD 500,000 in real estate, the stock market or USD 750,000 in a fix term account (Bank CD) at a local bank. Other than that, all other residency permit categories must be submitted with the physical presence of the client in Panama.
