Please note that things have been complicated by new policies but there are some beneficial policies. Therefore my only suggestion for you is to seek services of a licensed immigration adviser and get your proper assessment completed, etc.

How can I benefit from the fast-track residency policy in New Zealand?
I'm employed as an aviation engineer in NZ but I'm originally from Thailand. I heard that I can now have a fast track to residency, when will this be in effect? Will it happen automatically or do I need to apply for a different work permit?

Depending your qualifications and experience in New Zealand, you may be eligible for one of the 3 skills-based pathways that allow you to get New Zealand residence if you meet the eligibility criteria: (i) the Skilled Migrant Resident pathway, (ii) the Green List pathway, and (iii) the Care Workforce and Transport Sector Agreement pathways. Some of the visas on these pathways allow you to apply for residence straight away, such as the Straight to Residence visa. Other pathways may require you to work in New Zealand before you can apply for residence, such as the Work to Residence Visa. In all cases, you need to apply for the visa, however, the processing time could be faster in certain types of visa.
