The Nomad Residence Permit and the Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP) are separate residence programs in Malta. To apply for the Nomad Residence Permit, one must be able to work from Malta using technological means. Such a person must either be employed by a foreign company with a valid work contract, own a foreign-registered business that can run from Malta, or provide freelance or consultancy services to clients based outside Malta. In addition, one must show a minimum annual gross income of €42,000 to be eligible. Transitioning to the Malta Permanent Residence Programme would require a separate application which can only be submitted through a licensed agent. The income you generate as a digital nomad can help you build the financial base to meet these requirements. Applications submitted from the 1st of January onwards will be subject to the following conditions: Applicants must meet one of the following wealth criteria: possess at least €500,000 in assets (including €150,000 in financial assets) or €650,000 in assets (with €75,000 in financial assets). They must also invest in property by purchasing property worth a minimum of €375,000 or renting property with an annual lease of at least €14,000. Additionally, applicants must pay administrative fees totaling €50,000 and a non-refundable contribution of €30,000 (if purchasing property) or €60,000 (if renting a property).
