As a student from Morocco doing an exchange semester in Paris, you may have the opportunity to work part-time in France while you study, but there are certain restrictions and requirements you need to be aware of. Ensure that your student visa allows you to work part-time during your studies in France. Typically, students from outside the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland are allowed to work up to 60% of a full time job (964 hours per year max.). There is no need to ask for a work permit then. However, if you hold a long-stay "student" or "student mobility program" visa, your employer will have to apply for a work permit (without opposability of the employment situation) if he wishes to offer you a job where the working time exceeds 964 hours per year. At least 2 days before the start of the contract, the employer is required to check the authenticity of the residence permit with the local prefecture, to ensure that it is still valid. In the absence of a response from the prefect within 2 working days of receipt of the request, the verification obligation is deemed to have been fulfilled. If the verification is not carried out on time, the employer is liable to criminal penalties for employing an employee without a work permit.
