How will international students on the UK’s new graduate visa route eventually gain British citizenship?

I'm an investor from the Middle East and I'm planning to send my children for PhDs to the UK on the recently announced graduate visa route. How can they gain UK citizenship if they follow this immigration path?

This route alone does not lead to citizenship, but is a stepping stone into skilled worker visa which can eventually lead to citizenship.

Your children will have to have indefinite leave to remain before they can apply for British citizenship. Graduate route will not lead to settlement (or indefinite leave to remain) unless the graduate had spent a total of 10 years in the UK in a combination of different visas (for example, seven years of studies and then three years in Graduate Route after completion of PhD). Alternatively, they can switch to the skilled worker route after the Graduate route and apply for indefinite leave to remain either after 10 years of residence overall or after five years in the Skilled Worker route, whichever is sooner.
