Italian immigration law provides for different kinds of nulla osta, depending on the type of visa and work permit one wants to apply for. Visas and work permits provided for by article 27 L.D. 286/98 (including, but not limited to, ICTs and EU Blue Cards) require the initial obtainment of a nulla osta. Should the person want to apply for a digital nomad and remote worker visa, no prior obtainment of nulla osta is required; the application is directly lodged with the Italian Consulate in the applicant's foreign country of residence.
