Italian startup visas can be granted to foreign entrepreneurs who are willing to build startups that comply with requirements under the Law 221/2012. The project itself does not matter as long as the main requirements for the startup qualify as innovative according to the law.

What residency options does Italy give to entrepreneurs looking to build startups in niche spaces that may not necessarily be what the Italian government is prioritizing right now?
Would you advise foreign startup owners to push only for ideas in their business plans that align more with what the Italian government wants rather than their own unique pet projects?

Start-up visa can be applied only for entrepreneurs who want to set up an innovative startup. Law 221/2012 defines “innovative start-up” as a new enterprise of a high technological value. Innovative startup companies benefit from several administrative, fiscal and accounting advantages, and are registered under a separate section with the Companies House (Registro Imprese). Be advised that applications for start-up visas can be applied for only until March 17.
