Malta offers several residency options for foreign entrepreneurs and investors. These include: (1) Malta Citizenship for Exceptional Services by Direct Investment – allows for the granting of citizenship after a three-year residence period or by exception, one year. (2) Malta Permanent Residence Programme – offers the right to stay and reside permanently in Malta. (3) Malta Global Residence Programme – offers an attractive tax solution and residence permit on an annual basis. (4) Malta Nomad Residence Permit – allows individuals to reside in Malta for up to one year whilst continuing to work for their employer, company or clients abroad. (5) Start-Up Residence Programme (soon be launched) – offers residence when investors choose Malta as their launch base for their business. As outlined, Malta's investment migration options offer differing benefits. Choosing the most suitable depends on the objectives and goals of the individual entrepreneurs and their family members.

At present, the entrepreneur visa does not exist in Malta; however, the Maltese government made it clear that it will introduce such an investment option shortly. Currently, any individual who invests at least 500,000 euros in a capital of Maltese company is eligible to apply for a residence permit on this basis.

Malta has not yet launched its version of an entrepreneur visa program, although it has been reported that this is in the pipeline. That being said, non-EU entrepreneurs, who are already set-up or operating from outside of Malta, have the ability to work remotely, service clients based outside of Malta, and earn a minimum gross monthly income of 2,700 euros may look into the Malta Nomad Residence Permit (MNRP). The MNRP is Malta's version of a digital nomad visa, being issued for up to one year with the possibility of renewal. Successful applicants will enjoy the right to reside in and work remotely from Malta, whilst also benefiting from visa-free access to travel within the Schengen area for up to 90 out of every 180 days.
