I heard that purchasing properties alone would not grant an investor the eligibility for a Japanese resident permit. What if I purchase a house and use it as an Airbnb rental property? Could this be deemed acceptable?

You are able to apply for a resident permit as a business manager type visa status by the investment into a house for rent along with a feasible business plan and a reasonable space of business office in Japan. In addition, approvals by some sectors of the local government to use the house for tourists via Airbnb would be required as well.
