I want to apply for a startup visa in Cyprus by investing in my friend’s IT company located in Nicosia. Do I have to prove that my money would be used for innovative activities? The company is already investing heavily in research and development before my investment comes in.

The same criteria still apply and you will have to prove that your money was actually invested in the company plus fulfilling the remaining criteria.
