I learned that Cyprus recently passed new amendments to its CBI program. According to the new policy, CBI applicants need to hold a valid Schengen visa before they can submit their applications. Does a Schengen tourist visa issued by another Schengen country work? If not, how can I apply for a Schengen visa for the purpose of the Cyprus CBI application? What type of visa should I apply for?

According to the new policy, although there is no official guidance to this yet, CBI applicants need to hold a valid Schengen visa before they can submit their applications. Therefore, a Schengen visa must be requested from any other country which is part of the Schengen Zone. Please note that the visa should be valid at the time of application.
Although there is no official guidance as to the new requirements of the CBI program, presumably any valid Schengen visa should be adequate for CBI applicants.
Any valid Schengen visa (from any country that is part of the Schengen Zone) should be adequate for the application purposes.
A tourist Schengen visa is sufficient, but it must be valid at the time of applying. You may apply either for a tourist or business visa (but of long duration), and you may apply to enter to countries which are the Schengen Zone countries.
