What is the point system in Japan to determine permanent residency?

What does it measure, and how can I learn whether I qualify? How can you gain more points under this system?

The person can apply for permanent residence when she or he has continuously stayed in Japan for 1 year or more with HSP status and have a total of 80 points or more. Three years stay with 70 points or more in the HSP calculation table will also meet one of the requirements for a PR application.
