I’m an American investor who has never been to Portugal. Where should I buy real estate to qualify for CBI, if my plan is to rent out the property and eventually sell it off once I get the passport?

The answer will depend on the ROI the investor expects. Areas near universities are always easy to rent out, as well near the beach or industry centers.
The golden visa offers several investment options. Investments in low density areas qualify for 20 percent reductions. Even though the Portuguese government stipulates the areas where the investment is possible, a specific list with all the territories that qualify for this “discount” does not exist.
There are many choices. I would suggest Evora, a world heritage city, that has great potential of profitability and where you can buy a property, refurbish and sell. Or you can go for a new one.
