Does the new visa apply to digital nomads or do I have to be living in Panama and working with local companies to get it?

There are several employment related residency permits, those that require proving a labor relationship with a Panamanian company may lead to a permanent residency status. There is, however, a particular short-term visa that allows digital nomads to obtain a legal stay in the country for up to nine months, this category, in particular, requires source of funds to be out of the country, hence not from a Panamanian company.
